Ecocert is the certification body for sustainable development that regulates and certifies natural and ecological cosmetics. Its standards are very strict and it supervises all the production, the creation of formulas, the manufacture, the packaging and the processes of packaging. The Ecocert certificateguarantees a minimum of natural ingredients and from organic farming in the elaboration of natural cosmetic products, in addition the ingredients must be Elaborated with procedures respectful with the environment. Ecocert is the first certification body to develop a standard for “natural and ecological cosmetics”
Requirements for Ecocert products
Among the requirements Ecocert requires to certify natural and organic cosmetics is the absence of transgenics, parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicone, PEG, ingredients of animal origin, perfumes and synthetic dyes in the manufacture of products. Being able to use natural products like milk, honey, propolis, etc … that do not involve animal abuse.
The biodegradable or recyclable nature of the packaging is a very important aspect since Ecocert somehow guarantees the whole process, from obtaining the raw materials, to the packaging, producing a natural product and respectful to the environment.
Ecocert has two levels of certification, in both cases it is necessary that 95% of the ingredients are natural or of natural origin.
Ecocert Natural Cosmetic Certificate: at least 50% of the vegetable ingredients of the formula must be of natural origin and 5% of the total ingredients must come from organic farming.
Ecocert Ecological Cosmetic Certificate: in addition to meeting the above requirements, at least 95% of the total plant ingredients of the formula must be of natural origin and 10% of the total ingredients must come from organic farming.
